Noordin Mat Top, A Mujahhidin or Terrorist?

Noordin Mohammed Top a.k.a Noordin Mat Top were born in Malaysia and thought to be a mastermind for the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) leader that responsible in recruting the JI soldiers.

Most of their terrorism activities were claimed for the justice to unfortunate Muslim especially in Palestin, Iraq, Afghanistan and others.

2009 JW Marriott hotel bombing

The questions that comes when a bombing activities series happen in Indonesia leads by Noordin since 2002 in Bali, 2003 at JW Marriott hotel, 2004 at Australia embassy and the latest on 2009 in JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotel in Jakarta

2002 Bali Bombing

made us think...

Is this what Islam want or it's just an act of terrorism?...

What is the war in perspective of Islam?..

Fighting should be directed only against fighting troops, and not to non- fighting personnel, and this is in compliance with the Qur’anic verse that reads: “ Fight in the way of Allah against those who fight against you, but begin not hostilities. Lo! Allah loveth not, aggressors.” (Al-Baqarah: 190)

2004 Australia Embassy Bombing

From this verse, clearly stated that we can't harm other innocent peoples that don't have anything to do with what their fight for.

According to Islam it is a great sin to kill an innocent person, and anyone who does so will suffer great torment in the hereafter:

...So We decreed for the tribe of Israel that if someone kills another person - unless it is in retaliation for someone else or for causing corruption in the earth - it is as if he had murdered all mankind. And if anyone gives life to another person, it is as if he had given life to all mankind. Our Messengers came to them with Clear Signs but even after that many of them committed outrages in the earth. (Surat al-Maida: 32)

As we can see from the above verse, killing one innocent person is regarded as equivalent to killing all of mankind.

What is the reason of some Muslim acted as a Terrosist?

In the May 7, 2002 New York Times, Nicholas D. Kristof tells about the Harvard's Kennedy School of Government Conference on Terrorism. The experts decided that it was wrong to blame terrorism on poverty and illiteracy, because the terrorists tend not to be poor and illiterate.

What then cause people, educated and with money, to give their lives to blow up buildings filled with utterly innocent people? Mr. Kristof suggests that we really don't know, but three factors are important: humiliation, economic isolation and foreign policy.

As we know, Israel had made the Palestinian suffer a lot of misery due to the territorial compromise. This had made made a humilation and isolation to the Muslim in Palestin. By using this point, as the reason to fight. Many Muslim's extremist were thought that by killing non-muslim will solve the problem.

But, it didn't solve any of it...The person that they should fight is the Isreal's troops and not the hotel guests....

What we can says here is...this is not a mujahhidin's only a bunch of terrorist that only kill unarmed and innocent peoples...

Al-Qaeda Indonesia Claimed to Responsible for the Jakarta Hotel Bombing

On 17th July 2009, a hotel bombing in Jakarta that involving famous U.S franchised hotel, J.W. Marriott and Ritz- Carlton had killed nine persons and injured almost 50 persons. The explosion were set by the two suicide bombers that acted as the guest in the hotel.

On 30th July, an unknown blog that known as Al-Qaeda Indonesia were claimed that they are responsible for the attacks.

The message in Indonesian and Arabic was signed by `Abu Muawwidz Nur Din bin Muhammad Top’ and praises two `holy warrior brothers’ who blew themselves up at the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels in central Jakarta.

The statement said the attacks were a `martyrdom operation for jihad’, intended as `retribution for the deeds of America and its agents against our Muslim brothers and holy warriors in all corners of the world’.

The statement described the victims of the attack as `henchmen of America’ and `thieves and robbers of things of value to the Muslims of this country.

Police have said the attacks bear the hallmarks of Malaysian Islamist Noordin Mohammed Top, who heads a violent splinter faction of the radical regional network Jemaah Islamiyah (JI).

Noordin is suspected of masterminding suicide bombings in Indonesia in 2003, 2004 and 2005 which killed a total of 42 people and injured scores more.

Indonesian police spokesman Sulistyo Ishak said, investigators were still examining if the claim of responsibility was genuine or a hoax.

``We will confirm with the investigation team. It’s for them to investigate if it’s true that this (attack) was carried out by this group,’’ Ishak told AFP.

Terrorism analyst Sidney Jones, of the International Crisis Group, said she could not say whether the claim was authentic but noted that blogs were `often used by some of the jihadi groups’.

``I just don’t know. It’s interesting this time round, if it is him, he’s only claiming to be Al-Qaeda for Indonesia and not the Malay Archipelago,’ she said.

Noordin has previously said he leads a group called Al-Qaeda for the Malay Archipelago.
