Melamine contained in China Egg Products


Hong Kong authorities had detected 4.7 parts per million of melamine in imported eggs produced by a division of China’s Dalian Hanwei Enterprise Group. The legal limit for melamine in foodstuffs in Hong Kong is 2.5 ppm.

The discovery of excessive levels of the industrial chemical melamine in Chinese eggs has prompted Hong Kong authorities to expand testing to include meat products imported from China.

This news had made many countries take a precaution to all China food products not only to milk but also to other products. By the spreading of the news about the Melamine in China eggs, might give impact to the China products that base on egg.

Japan also had detected the Melamine contained from the Egg powder from China that had been consumed by that country.

A few countries such as South Korea and Sri Lanka had already give a precaution order in egg consumption as they are importing egg products from China.

In Malaysia, this country does not import egg powder from China, according to a Health Ministry statement issued here Saturday.

The director of the ministry’s Food Quality and Safety Division, Noraini Mohd Othman, said based on the import permits from the Veterinary Services Department, China was not listed among countries that could export egg powder to Malaysia.

“This was also confirmed by the Food Safety Information System of Malaysia (FoSIM) whereby egg powder is imported from other countries like the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France,” she said.

Recently, China had shocked the food industries business by the discovery of Melamine contained in the China dairy products (see link)
